Today's mission

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to explain the difference between a sandbox and the real system, describe how permissions are granted per action, and state the principle of least privilege in your own words.

The idea in one picture

A toddler playing in a sandbox at the park can dig, build castles, knock them down and make a glorious mess. Nobody worries, because the sandbox keeps all of that contained: the sand doesn't end up on the flower beds or the picnic tables. If the toddler wants to leave the sandbox and play somewhere else, an adult decides first whether that's okay. An agent's sandbox works exactly like this: a safe space where it can try things and make mistakes freely, plus a grown-up rule that says "you need permission to touch anything outside."
