Today's mission

Compress a pattern, rebuild it and precisely measure the lost information.

Proof of success: explain "Autoencoder and latent space", complete "The Four-Symbol Telegram" and name the limit of the analogy.

The story

To send pixel flags over a fictional radio, Jade limits each drawing to two numbers. An encoder turns 16 cells into this latent code; a decoder tries to rebuild the 16 cells. If all the training flags look very similar, two numbers can preserve their big patterns. An unusual flag may be poorly rebuilt. The quality therefore depends on the data, the bottleneck size and the loss function.
