In One Picture

A good bookseller does three things a paper catalog does not. If you ask for "a book about Kubrenetes", they understand Kubernetes: that is typo tolerance. If you ask for "containers in production", they do not give you every book that contains "containers" somewhere and "production" elsewhere, they look for the phrase: that is the phrase. And when two books answer your question equally well, they hand you first the one their customers loved: that is the boost. Elasticsearch performs these three moves with fuzziness, match_phrase, and function_score, and it shows you its reasoning with explain.
